Camarillo Squadron 61 Participates in First Group 4 SAREX of 2020

A warm and clear Saturday saw twenty seven  Senior Members and Cadets of the California Civil Air Patrol (CAP) gather for a day of training on search and rescue preparedness and skills. The SAREX (Search and Rescue Exercise) was held on January 25th at Santa Maria Airport and surrounding skies and countryside. The exercise brought together members of several squadrons of CAP California Group 4 (Central Coast) from as far north as San Luis Obispo and as far south as Camarillo.  The training included organizational and communications work by command and base staff, aerial sorties by several flight crews and the coordinated training of a ground search and rescue team working in the countryside of the Santa Ynez Valley. The Public Affairs Officer for Camarillo Squadron 61, Lt Glen MacDonald, says that "Not only does a SAREX build technical skills, but it also contributes to the team-building that is important in fulfilling the mission of the Civil Air Patrol.  This payoffs in terms of being fully prepared when the call to mobilize for a search and rescue operation comes.".  According to the US Air Force Rescue Coordination Center, thus far in Fiscal Year 2020 the Civil Air Patrol is credited with saving 42 lives through search and rescue activities.
